Transplant +1,954 : Vaccinations and Steps

The good news from my December hospital appointment was that a mere 5 years, 3 months post transplant my bloods were deemed good enough for me to have an MMR vaccination – which I had yesterday. It was a non-event in the end. Fewer side effects than after the second shingles vaccine that I had a couple of weeks earlier. The second dose is due in a month – and then I’m fully up to date with everything.

Retirement has definitely been good for me. Not only have my blood counts and immune system improved (hello Covid-19 antibodies – nice of you to make an appearance after 8 doses), but I’ve also started to get a little fitter. This year’s resolution is to walk at least 3,000,000 steps – a little under 8,200 a day on average. So far I’m managing 7,590 – on pace for 2.78 million – which would be 220,000 more than I walked last year. I’m hoping that better weather will help me catch up to my target. It was a chilly -6.5 degrees Celsius first thing this morning.

Retrocomputing stuff carries on as normal. I’m amassing an eclectic book collection thanks largely to Oxfam’s online shop (books on algorithms, Fortran90 and Colossus are recent additions) and I built a Z80 emulator kit earlier on this month when it wouldn’t stop raining. Nice of Santa to encourage one of my hobbies …

Some important events are happening later on this year including 60th birthdays (one of them might be mine) and a wedding (not mine!). It’s good to feel optimistic at the start of a year.
