January Step Count
As a way of staying motivated to reach three million steps in 2024, I’ve decided to post a monthly update here. Yes, I know this isn’t strictly to do with MCL …
To reach 3,000,000 steps in 2024 means averaging 8,197 steps per day. This works out at 3,000,102 steps, but as you can’t take a fraction of a step it will have to do.
January’s results are encouraging. I took 244,548 steps – 26,455 more than I managed last year. Here’s a pretty bar chart to emphasise this point.

However, those of you that can quickly divide by 31 will notice that I’m averaging under my self-imposed target of 3,000,000 steps. I missed January’s quota by 9,550 steps. But the year is young and the weather will get better … and it means I only need to find an extra 29 steps a day for the rest of the year.
Averaging 8,226 steps a day doesn’t sound too difficult …
Well done, you’re getting there. It hasn’t exactly been a month for the outdoors!
We did a lot of long walks in New Zealand earlier and I re-started running when I got back. I managed 358,000.
I should try and work out what my step count would be excluding the runs… I think in an active running month, it’ll be between 100,000 and 120,000 that come from running. The rest are my proper walking steps. 😉
